The RBC Canadian Open has a little extra star power this week in the likes of “A.K.” and “Boom Boom.” The former is making his first ever visit to Canada (at the behest of newfound IMG agent and Canadian-born Chris Armstrong?), while the latter is returning to Glen Abbey for the first time since 1995.
“You always want to play well, but you’ve got to play more to beat these guys,” said Couples. “You can’t just show up after two weeks off and play Monday and hit balls Tuesday and play Wednesday and think you’re going to do well.
“But that’s where I’m at.”
Even still, Couples has made 10 of 12 cuts this year and has nearly won on this golf course in the past.
No matter what happens, you can count on Freddy being one of the fan favourites this week, just as he’s always been during a PGA Tour career that started at a time when Jack Nicklaus was still playing this event.
“All the girls think he’s cute and all the guys think he’s cool,” Furyk said of Couples. “That doesn’t happen too often.”
After watching the way Kim was treated by his colleagues on Tuesday, it doesn’t seem like much of a stretch to suggest that golf might be seeing it happen again.
